Concierge

Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires Concierge

I have been a concierge for 5 years and I work at Palacio Duhau – Park Hyatt Buenos Aires since 2010. I have the opportunity to make the difference in many stays of our guests and that comforts me every day. That is one of the reasons why I am deeply in love with my job.

What's the most important thing you learned about travel?
Fortunately, I can say I learned something different from each of the trips I had embarked myself on, sometimes alone and in other opportunities accompanied. But one of the most important things I have learned is that immersing yourself in reading about the local culture gives you a new perspective of the places you will visit. It opens your mind. I try to plan some activities but mainly I am open to unexpected things that can happen. Of course I always contact my colleagues and take their recommendations.

What is your favorite cultural place to walk to from your hotel?
We are located in the heart of Recoleta, an iconic and sophisticated neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. Take a stroll from the Hotel to Libertador Avenue, a landmark of the city lined with Jacaranda trees ( blossom during springtime a must see scenery) and visit Basilica del Pilar and MALBA Museum, house of one of the most extensive collections of Latinamerican art.

Last year we created our Hotel APP available in App Store as “Park Hyatt Buenos Aires”, with recommendations, in the know experiences and off the beaten path circuits. Do not forget to check it out!

You have $15 to spend on lunch, where would you eat? If you had $500?
El Sanjuanino, walking distance from our front door, offers typical Argentinian regional cuisine and the best empanadas in the city. For a special occasion, I would definitely make a reservation in Tegui, one of the most modern restaurants in the city. German Martitegui, Chef and Owner, changes the menu every week, featuring a twelve steps menu experience.

What have guests been asking about lately? What kind of experiences are they looking for?
Most of our guests are interested in tango. They come to Buenos Aires wanting to embrace this dance as the locals do. There are few things that define us, “porteños”, so clearly as tango does.

They may enjoy it in its different manifestations as Milongas-Tango Clubs where local people meet to dance with their own partners or others-, Tango Shows- where you may enjoy not only an outstanding show as a spectator but a traditional and tasteful diner as well, or being part more deeply of this special feeling with tango lessons.

For Polo lovers, Argentinean polo players are known for being some of the top players around the world. In the Polo Clinics guests will have the chance to see them in action experiencing the finest polo in the country; wander through pony lines; socialize with Polo players; and learn anecdotes and interesting information about the game.

If you could learn to create one dish at the hotel restaurant, what would it be?
I can not choose just one! I would love to learn how to make macarons with our Pastry Chef; a salmon ravioli with the Chef of Gioia Restaurante & Terrazas and learn the grilling techinique at Duhau Restaurante & Vinoteca.

What is your favorite piece of artwork in the hotel?
I have no doubt that my favorite piece of art at the hotel is Guillermo Roux “La Ronda”, an imposing and powerful artwotk. It conquers your attention as soon as you enter the Palacio Lobby.

Is there an interesting fact about your hotel that many people don't know?
Our hotel integrates a Palace from 1934 and a contemporary building. Luis Duhau, Minister of Agriculture by that time, ordered the French architect León Dourge to build this Palace.  It was restored for the opening of the hotel but some places remain the same with original marble floors, firewood grills, wooden doors, etc…

Tell us about a rare and unique experience you have curated for guests in your location?
I perfectly remember the day when a guest dressed with a brick color pant and mustard blazer gently approached the Concierge desk and told me he had three challenges for me. Two were feasible quiet easily but third one was a little bit more difficult. He wanted to go to the South Pole, the Antarctica, for the day just to see the penguins. The first thing that came to my mind was that he could go to the cruise but he was pretty persistent that he wanted to go for just one day. We made it possible!

Is there one other Park Hyatt hotel and resort in particular you love or are dying to visit?
Thinking of relaxing holidays, I would definitely choose Park Hyatt Maldives. I can imagine myself snorkeling and feeling the crystalline water on my feet.
